Utstein Monastery is Norway's only preserved medieval monastery, situated in a delightful setting on Mosterøy in Rennesøy. Utstein Kloster is currently operated as a museum, conference venue, banqueting and concert venue. The monastery is located on Klosterøy in Rennesøy. It is a 30 minute driving distance to Stavanger via an undersea tunnel.
Utstein is mentioned in historical sources, as far back as the 1000's as a royal residence for Harald Fairhair after the Battle of Hafrsfjord in year 872.
